Small Plates Eltham is your local restaurant serving up unique tapas style dishes to please every appetite with a team focused on providing a wonderful dining experience through great food and beverages, the showcasing of interesting cuisines, a warm and inviting atmosphere to enjoy with family and friends time after time.
As someone who absolutely loves food it was a pleasure to work with the team at Small Plates Eltham from its initial conception. The colour palette was inspired by the spiced and exotic nature of Middle Eastern / South American hybrid food that I was served during tastings prior to launch as it was able to give me a full picture on what the restaurant would be. The copper foil inlays felt straight out of a bazaar in Istanbul, with the contrasting black to add elegance whilst allowing everything to pop. Incidentally the copper also felt right at home with some of the most premium cookware, and gave Small Plates a feeling a class within the more casual Eltham.
The 'SP' icon was created to be reminiscent of a 'small plate' with a large amount of food filling the space - representative of the tapas and meze food style presented at the restaurant. The single line letters were created to allude to the copper panelling added to both the interior and exterior of the restaurant, as well as the foil inlays that were to be used on menus, business cards and other brand collateral.
To further the copper aesthetic and preach elegance, the wordmark was created to be simple, with thin lines and borders to allow for easy application of foil inlays to be used across the board. This also helped provide contrast to the icon which was almost illustrative in nature, and be able to hold its own throughout a range of applications.
